Fargo, N.D. 鈥 The Cleburne Railroaders baseball organization took another step in its return to the diamond by officially joining the American Association of Independent Baseball on Thursday at the league owners鈥 meetings.
Directors voted unanimously to accept the Railroaders鈥 application.
It has been more than 100 years since the Railroaders have played baseball in Cleburne. With the agreement with the American Association, Cleburne will take the field in May 2017 at the under-construction stadium, aptly named The Depot, which honors the city鈥檚 rich tradition of railroad history.
Railroaders President Robbie Fenyes and Cleburne Mayor Scott Cain attended the meetings.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a tremendous thrill,鈥 Fenyes said upon learning of the Railroaders鈥 acceptance into the league. 鈥淚t was our goal all along to join the American Association, which is the premier league for professional minor league independent baseball and we鈥檙e excited to be bringing their brand of baseball to Cleburne.鈥
