GRIDER CAPS BIG GAME WITH WALK-OFF HIT FOR AIRHOGS

Texas 6, Salina 5 —

Thanks to an RBI single from 3BÌýCasio Grider, the Texas AirHogs walked off on the Salina Stockade 6-5 after a wild ninth inning.

The AirHogs entered the ninth with a 3-2 lead but the Stockade tied the game with an RBI single from DHÌýJesse BakerÌýand then took the lead when Baker and 2BÌýFernando GarzaÌýscored as CFÌýRoche WoodardÌýreached on an error. In the bottom of the frame, SSÌýBeamer WeemsÌýhit a lead-off single but was retired – after LFÌýCharley ThurberÌýdrew a walk – on a fielder’s choice off the bat of CFÌýAlvaro Rondon. In the next at-bat, 2BÌýRyne WillardÌýsingled to score Thurber to draw the AirHogs within a run.

Grider came up and singled to left field to plate both Willard and Rondon for the game-winning run. Grider finished the day with a game-high three hits. 1BÌýJake TaylorÌýwent 2-for-4 for the AirHogs as well and Woodard as well as 1BÌýKewby MeyerÌýeach had a pair of hits for the Stockade.

Cleburne 6, Lincoln 5Ìý—

The Cleburne Railroaders used a pair of three-run innings to top the Lincoln Saltdogs 6-5 despite being outhit 14-8.

Cleburne took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with the first of their two three-run frames. CFÌýK.C. HuthÌýand SSÌýAlex PolstonÌýeach had RBI base hits in the fourth an Polston later stole home to take a 3-2 lead. The Saltdogs took the lead back with a single run in the sixth and seventh innings but the Railroaders rallied back in the bottom of the seventh. LFÌýNick Van StrattenÌýtripled home 2BÌýMaikol GonzalezÌýand then scored alongside 1BÌýGeraldo ValentinÌýwhen DHÌýPichi BaletÌýtripled.

2BÌýCesar ValeraÌýsingled home SSÌýIvan MarinÌýin the top of the eighth but that would be the final run of the game. For the Saltdogs, both CÌýDashenko RicardoÌýand DHÌýCurt SmithÌýhad three hits and for the Railroaders, RFÌýAxel JohnsonÌýwent 2-for-4.

Winnipeg 6, St. Paul 3Ìý—

The Winnipeg Goldeyes rallied for six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to steal a 6-3 in against the St. Paul Saints.

The Saints took the lead in the fifth inning as CFÌýKes CarterÌýsingled home DHÌýBrady ShoemakerÌýand then scored in the next at-bat when SSÌýJ.J. GouldÌýhomered. But in the bottom of the eighth, the Goldeyes, who had recorded just two hits to that point in the game, broke things open with a six-hit, 12-batter inning to take the lead. The first four batters each singled including RBI singles from 2BÌýJordan EbertÌýand SSÌýAndrew Sohn, who had a team-high two hits. CFÌýReggie AbercrombieÌýand DHÌýDavid BerginÌýboth hit two-RBI singles later in the inning to take and cement the lead.

The Saints were held to just five hits in the game and two of those came from CÌýMaxx Garrett. Starting pitcherÌýKevin McGovernÌý(10-2) picked up the win for his eight innings of work that included five hits and eight strikeouts and relieverÌýVictor CapellanÌýearned his fifth save.

 

Kansas City 5, Wichita 2 — Game 1/10 InningsÌý—

In the first game of the doubleheader between the Kansas City T-Bones and the Wichita Wingnuts, the T-Bones needed 10 innings to break a 2-2 tie and claim a 5-2 win.

The game was originally scheduled for just seven innings but the score was tied thanks to a pair of RBIs from LF/PÌýBrennen SalgadoÌýand a two-run third inning from the T-Bones. In the third, RFÌýChantz MackÌýscored when DHÌýKevin KeyesÌýreached on an error and then CFÌýCedric HunterÌýhit an RBI single. In the top of the 10th, LFÌýDexter KjerstadÌýreached on an error, allowing 1BÌýKyle PettyÌýto score and in the next at-bat 3BÌýJordan EdgertonÌýhit a two-run home run. Edgerton finished the game 4-for-5.

RelieverÌýJeff WaltersÌý(2-3) worked the final two innings, including a 1-2-3 10th, to earn the win.

 

Wichita 13, Kansas City 3 – Game 2/7 InningsÌý—

The Wichita Wingnuts responded in game two of their doubleheader with the Kansas City T-Bones in a big way as they racked up 11 hits on the way to a 13-3 win.

Wichita scored in five of the six innings it went to the plate and tallied five and four runs in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. Eight of the nine batters in the order recorded at least one hit and three batters – DHÌýBrent Clevlen, CFÌýT.J. MittelstaedtÌýand RFÌýRichard PrigatanoÌý– each had three RBIs in the game. Clevlen, Prigatano and 2BÌýChristian StringerÌýeach had two hits in the game.

For the T-Bones, 2BÌýMarcus LemonÌýhad a team-high two hits and 1BÌýKevin KeyesÌýhit his league-leading 23rdÌýhome run of the season.
