Triple Crown Also in Reach for Lake Country Slugger; Milwaukee Nears Playoff Clincher with 18 Games to Play in Regular Season

MOORHEAD, Minn., August 20, 2026 – While a lot of the home run talk around the ۿ۴ý (AAPB) has been about the all-time chase between José Sermo and Jabari Henry, it’s Joshua Mears of Lake Country that’s making single-season home run news with his 31 taters. With the Miles Wolff Cup playoffs looming less than three weeks away, all AAPB regular season and playoff broadcasts are available free for live viewing on .

Here are 10 (or so) Things to Know about the AAPB this week:

  • Mears enters the weekend just two shy of the AAPB single-season record of 33, held by Adam Walker (Milwaukee, 2021). The power surge to put himself within striking distance of the historic mark. Walker, incidentally, has hit 63 home runs in four-plus years in Japan and China from 2022-present, after blasting 77 in three years with the Milkmen and 143 in seven MLB affiliated minor league seasons.
  • The traditional Triple Crown is also in play for Mears, whose .354 batting average trails only , while his 88 RBI pace the circuit.
  • This week, the AAPB announced that for the remainder of the 2026 season, adding to the record footprint. American Association games will now be available in over 36 million homes, a 72% increase from just last season.
  • Winnipeg will host a special celebration during its home game against the Kansas City Monarchs on Monday. The evening will bring together baseball fans, Legion members, veterans, military personnel and members of the community for a meaningful tribute to an organization that has supported those who have served Canada for a century.
  • Kane County takes on the for the final time this season tonight vs. Milwaukee.
  • Milwaukee (48-34) and Kansas City (47-35) lead the East and West divisions, respectively, with just 2 ½ weeks left in the regular season. The Milkmen are 14 games up on fifth-place Gary SouthShore, and can be the first to clinch a spot this week. Lake Country (47-35) could also potentially secure a slot this week.
  • Gary SouthShore over Chicago on Wednesday, one run shy of the 18-year-old league record for runs in a game. Former big leaguers Aaron Altherr and Zach Plesac faced off, but it was that made it memorable.
  • AAPB teams use their venues for not just great baseball, but also community engagement events:
    • Lake Country will celebrate National Night Out in Ocomowoc, Wis., at DockHounds Ballpark. The free event features family activities, emergency vehicle displays, and the highly anticipated Police vs. Fire kickball game.
    • The Lincoln Police Department and Lincoln Fire Department , raising money for the First Responder Foundation.
    • Siouxland at the Ballpark.
  • Media interest in the AAPB remains strong. Some of the recent articles on teams include:
    • The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has taken notice of Josh Mears’s home run record chase, as on Tuesday.
    • KITV after the X’s loss to Fargo-Moorhead on Tuesday.
    • InKansasCity as part of its Discover Kansas City, Kansas item.
    • Last week’s Blaine, Minn., expansion announcement was chronicled by , , and more.
    • The Winnipeg Free Press featured Goldeyes ace after a mid-year stop in the Mexican League.
    • BroBible tater tot eating contest defeat at Lake Country last week.
    • Milwaukee Magazine as one of its featured “Things to Do In Milwaukee” this weekend.
  • A few team promotions of note are:
    • All kids 12 and under will be admitted free to Friday’s game between Sioux Falls and Kansas City at the Birdcage on Kids Night, courtesy of the Canaries’ local partners. Then, The Birdcage will turn into Harry Potter’s village “Hogsmeade” on Saturday for “Wizards and Wands Night.”
    • Kane County hosts Tie-Dye Night on Saturday, with specialty jerseys up for sale with proceeds going to The Joshua Tree Community.
    • Saturday is “Battle of the Borders Night” in Sioux City when the first 500 fans at Lewis and Clark Park receive a Spit Iowa/Nebraska Explorers jersey sponsored by Scheels Sports.
    • Lincoln has been celebrating its 25th season all season long, and host families get their due on Friday with an official team recognition at that night’s game vs. Fargo-Moorhead

New 70-Acre Destination just steps away from the National Sports Center, Will Feature a Baseball and Event Stadium, Retail, Dining, Hospitality, and Year-Round Entertainment Experiences

BLAINE, MN. — August 12, 2026 Bader Companies, Elevage and the City of Blaine today announced The Farm as the official name of the new sports and entertainment district now under construction in Blaine. The Farm will bring together a new era of sports, entertainment, dining, shopping, hospitality, residential living, medical services, and community gathering spaces into a premier, world-class destination in the heart of Blaine. It is anticipated to open in early 2028.

The Farm will transform 70 acres of undeveloped land into a marquee destination designed to bring athletes, fans, families, residents, and visitors together. Inspired by the site’s agricultural roots, the name reflects both the history of the land and the development’s vision to grow the area into a place where community, entertainment, and athletics come together. The Farm was created to be a place where community and athletes can grow, inspired by its location alongside the National Sports Center, where young talent is cultivated and competitors from across the country come to train and compete.

This district is designed as a live, work, play development to create an immersive experience that extends beyond game day. From shopping and dining to community events, live concerts, and baseball games, every aspect of the development has been thoughtfully planned to create a destination that remains vibrant throughout the year.

“The Farm was inspired by a vision to build on Blaine’s strong sports legacy and create a destination that delivers lasting value for the community,” said Co-Developers Bader Companies and Elevage. “We see The Farm as more than a development, it’s an opportunity to create a landmark destination that attracts visitors, drives investment, supports local businesses, and contributes to Blaine’s continued growth and vitality for years to come.”

“The Farm represents one of the most significant private investments in Blaine’s history and reflects the confidence developers have in our community’s future,” said Mayor Tim Sanders. “This transformative project will create jobs, attract new businesses and visitors, expand entertainment and dining options, and build on Blaine’s reputation as a premier destination for sports and recreation. We are excited to see this vision take shape and the lasting impact it will have on our community for generations to come.”

Anchoring the development will be SCHEELS, the company’s second location in the Twin Cities metro, joining Eden Prairie, and sixth in the state. The 250,000-square-foot, one-of-a-kind experiential retail destination will feature an indoor Ferris wheel, a 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium with over 600 fish, specialty shops, and unforgettable experiences for guests of all ages.

Complementing these attractions will be upscale restaurants, retail offerings, a hotel, residential housing, a medical office, public gathering spaces, and a state-of-the-art baseball and event stadium that will welcome the return of American Association Professional Baseball to Minnesota as the home of the state’s newest professional team. Together, these experiences will create a premier destination that delivers a pro-caliber fan experience and a hub of activity for the community unlike anything else in Minnesota.

“The addition of Blaine, Minnesota, is the latest step in our strategic growth as a league,” said Josh Schaub, Commissioner of the ۿ۴ý. “We welcome Robb Bader, TWAN, Corey Burstad and their team, and most importantly, the fans of Minnesota, to the American Association in a community and business partnership that, like many of our other franchises, goes well beyond the baseball diamond.”

Plesac, Martinez Acquisitions Boost Gary SouthShore, Goldeyes Third to String Together Double Digit Wins, Highlighting Week for the MLB Partner League

MOORHEAD, Minn., August 6, 2026 – A pair of former big leaguers now calling Gary SouthShore home and the third double-digit win streak by an ۿ۴ý (AAPB) team this season (this time, Winnipeg) highlight happenings around the league this week. As the circuit enters the 30-games-remaining stretch, AAPB broadcasts are, as always, available free for live viewing on AABaseball.tv.

Here are 10 (or so) Things to Know about the AAPB this week:

  • Two weeks ago, the Winnipeg Goldeyes were, pardon the pun, floundering a few games under .500. But an (improbably, the third double-digit string by an AAPB club this season!) has them solidly in playoff position. The skein matches the longest in team history, set in 2014.
  • Superstud José Sermo continued his assault on AAPB pitchers in July, blasting 11 home runs, driving in 36 runs and posting a 1.516 POS to earn . Milwaukee’s Jhordany Mezquita won three games, pitching to a 1.88 ERA and fanning 24 to take honors.
  • Gary SouthShore dipped into the former MLB player pool for the stretch run, with two key acquisitions this week:
    • Six-year big leaguer Zach Plesac, who won 27 games with Cleveland and the Los Angeles Angels from 2019-2024, , tossing two perfect innings and whiffing two.
    • They also . Martinez played in 34 games in the Bigs in 2010 and 2011, and slashed .291/.367/.381 in 93 games for the X’s in 2024, his last AAPB action.
  • Stolen bases are a big weapon in the AAPB, and the Sioux City Explorers are at the forefront of the thievery. CF Austin Davis in his club’s 8-7 loss to Fargo-Moorhead Sunday. Davis now has 58 SB in 2026; the league record is 71 (Bryan Torres, Milwaukee, 2023). The X’s, after six more bags last night, are up to 217 steals this season, also within striking distance of the league record of 275 that they set last year.
  • We previewed it here last week, and , assisting those affected by recent tornadoes in Wisconsin by leading a relief drive at Franklin Field last Thursday.
  • Thursday’s Cancer Awareness Night in Sioux Falls , as the cause hits closer to home. Ryan Richardson, who pitched in 47 games for the club last year after four years with Kane County, was diagnosed with the disease in spring training 2026. Fans can , with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Ryan.
  • The Canaries will also on Saturday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Kids 11-14 receive two hours of professional instruction from their favorite Sioux Falls Canaries players, making it the perfect opportunity to sharpen their skills, have fun, and create lasting memories at the Birdcage.
  • With about 30 games left in the AAPB season, the home run and RBI races are two-man affairs, and it . Joshua Mears of Lake Country (25 HR, 72 RBI) and José Sermo of Fargo-Moorhead (24 HR, 73 RBI) battle it out in those two categories, while Mears’s .340 batting average puts him narrowly atop the league, keeping the triple crown alive for the DockHounds’ outfielder.
  • Righthander Kevin Herget, who pitched for Fargo-Moorhead in 2021 and has pitched in parts of five seasons in the Majors, returned to MLB with the Mets, . He’s the 15th AAPB alum to play in a big-league game in 2026. He was subsequently returned to AAA Syracuse but remains in the mix for the team this season.
  • Former Sioux Falls Canaries broadcaster J.P. Shadrick is the , the team announced on Tuesday. Shadrick was the Canaries’ lead broadcaster and primary baseball information contact in 2005.
  • Media interest in AAPB remains strong. Some of the recent articles on teams include:
    • The Winnipeg Free Press notes that Goldeyes pitcher .”
    • The Free Press also featured Goldeyes that has transformed a corner of the clubhouse into a makeshift barber shop.
    • WSPYNews.com on Tuesday. Roberts started game two of the doubleheader with Winnipeg, allowing two earned runs over 4 1/3 innings.
    • Canaries entertainer including bobblehead giveaways and the team’s final Kids Camp of the year.
    • KTIV Ch. 4 in Sioux City in helping the X’s become the first AAPB franchise to 1,000 wins.
  • A few team promotions of note are:
    • Friday’s “Happy Gilmore Night” in Sioux Falls celebrates the 30th anniversary (!) year of the golf-themed classic film.
    • Fargo-Moorhead hosts Minnesota State Moorhead Night at the Redhawks on Tuesday at Newman Outdoor Field, fortifying its partnership with the local Dragons, a member of NCAA Division II.
    • Thursday is “Throwback Night” in Kane County, with the first 1500 fans pulling a throwback jersey courtesy of Country Financial and appearance by 11-year big leaguer Scott Podsednik.
    • Winnipeg will also wear throwback Goldeyes jerseys on Thursday.
    • Gary SouthShore and Winnipeg will host Sensory Awareness games on Sunday and Wednesday, respectively. Each event features a sensory-friendly, inclusive environment, specialty team jerseys up for auction, and community resource vendors.
    • In that spirit, The Arc of Lincoln in partnership with The Autism Family Network is offering free tickets to the Saltdogs game on Friday at Haymarket Park. Tickets are FREE for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and their families.
    • Friday is Kansas Swiftie Monarchs Night, with in-game Eras parade, friendship bracelet exchange and more, which Monarchs backers and fans of a certain pop start know “all too well.”

The ۿ۴ý today announced a three-year extension of the contract of Commissioner Joshua Schaub, whose contract was set to expire after this season after being appointed on March 1, 2019.

“It has been an honor to help lead such a talented and professional group, from our league staff to our ownership groups and our business and broadcast partners, as well as our managers, coaches and athletes,” Schaub said. “While we have made great strides across the board, our biggest opportunities still lie ahead and I am looking forward to seeing how far we can grow, especially with the buy-in of our fans.”

Henry Raps Two Home Runs, Sermo Counters with Five, Highlighting Week for the MLB Partner League

MOORHEAD, Minn., July 23, 2026 – Welcome back, Jabari Henry. The league’s all-time home run champ returned after missing more than six weeks (prefaced with an appearance on the field at the All-Star Game last week, when he pronounced himself ready to resume play for the Sioux Falls Canaries). As always, fans can watch Henry and Fargo-Moorhead’s José Sermo battle it out for big fly supremacy as all AAPB games are, as always, available free for live viewing on AABaseball.tv.

Here are 10 (or so) Things to Know about the AAPB this week:

  • Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks José Sermo continued his assault on AAPB pitching – and the league record books. He since winning the AAPB All-Star Home Run Derby last week, raising his total to 165, two short of Sioux Falls first baseman Jabari Henry.
  • Sermo’s 24 home runs and 68 RBI pace the circuit this season. He is within striking distance of the league records for HR (33, Adam Brett Walker, Milwaukee ’21) and RBI (Kyle Martin, 106, Winnipeg ’21).
  • Henry, who maybe has had enough of watching Sermo chase him down, homered in his first game back in more than six weeks, then at The Birdcage. (Of course, as we chronicled last week, Henry served as Home Run Derby pitcher for his tater-blasting counterpart).
  • The Sioux City Explorers gained their 1000th all-time win in dramatic fashion last night, . The X’s are the first team in the current American Association to reach that mark in league history. Lincoln is the other team entering the season closing in on 1000 with 966.

  • Baseball history was celebrated as the before Saturday’s game at Legends Field. The seven legends include Chester Brewer, Edward Dwight Sr., George Giles, Carroll Ray Mothell, Charles Wilber “Bullet” Rogan. Diego Segui and Frank Wickware.
  • At 36 (Happy Birthday this past Monday!), Mitch Lambson of Winnipeg was the league’s oldest player – until KC added Michael Mariot (37 yrs, 276 days as of today) and Milwaukee signed Henderson Alvarez III (36 year, 96 days). Both are former Major Leaguers who have previous AAPB stints as well. Mariot made his first start for the Monarchs yesterday.
  • Down but not out! Trailing 2-0 with one out to go in a potential no-hit bid for Cleburne’s Luke Short, an infield error kept the game alive, and after a walk, Hudson Head that ruined the no-no, the shutout, and the victory for the Railroaders in Game One of yesterday’s sweep by KC.
  • Media interest in AAPB remains strong. Some of the recent articles on teams include:
    • The Crescent News (Ohio) highlighted the selections of Art Warren and Zach Willeman to the American Association All-Star Game, in Lincoln.
